Crafting Futures 


Crafting Futures was a 6-week programme for craft artisan to engage with local craft materials, skills and communities to build up creativity and sustainability on traditional crafts to revitalise the intangible heritage practices and mobilise craft and art education through collaboration with teachers and students in Chengdu, China.  


The residency was a two part experience that involved Lecturing at Chengdu University as well as developing an exhibition collection of Fashion and Homewares. Odette's main collaborator was a Master Shuxiu Embroiderer named Meng Dezhi, who is one of only two Master Shu embroiderers in mainland China. The collection featured all naturally dyed fabrics, batik printing, screen printing, shu embroidery and bamboo weaving.
